Chosen Births Midwifery

I believe "midwifery" has always been and should continue to be the loving act of grandmothers, mothers, sisters and friends assisting ladies in the blessing of having a new baby.  I believe that the practice of midwifery is distinct from the practice of medicine in that it pertains to a normal life cycle, not an illness.  My role in this normal life cycle is that of support person (Doula) and at times, guardian.  As a Christian, mother and grandmother, I believe that a woman's spiritual and emotional needs in childbearing are as important as adequate medical care.  I believe in every woman's right to the birth setting and attendants of her choice.  Each woman is unique, and her care should be tailored to meet her individual needs.  I believe it is each person's privilege and responsibility to manage their own body - making the Doula/client or midwife/client relationship one of mutual understanding and trust.  I am committed to every effort that enhances a loving, gentle, and safe birth experience.  Christian midwives are scarce and I believe God has placed a deep desire in my heart to carry on the oldest physicial ministry of women next to motherhood itself.  My desire is to assist women who want to experience the joy of having a truly natural birth.  Many wonderful things happen during births and I always look for God's hand and His surprises in addition to the precious miracle of the birth.  I will stand with you in faith as the Lord calls forth your baby.  As a midwife, I will assist you with the skills God has allowed me to have but I will not interfere with the ordained function of the authority of the family.  I feel both proud and humbled to know that I am a midwife, called to serve women and families at one of the most important events of their lives - called to a task that uses my mind, body, senses, spirit, heart and imagination to their full extent, called to work that drains, empties and tires me and yet fills my heart to overflowing.
