Labors of Love Midwifery

My mother had five of her eight children in France, under the expert care of midwives. Upon her return to the United States, she not only opted for midwifery care, but a homebirth. I was twelve at the time, but shortly after my brother’s birth, I knew that this was what I wanted to do.

I began my apprenticeship in 1997. After a leave of absence while traveling abroad, I resumed my apprenticeship in Greenville, SC under the sponsorship of the midwife who had delivered my brother thirteen years before. During that time, I met Linda Weaver (also an apprentice.) We so enjoyed working together that when she licensed, and the midwife with whom I was training moved away, I began working with Linda. We have continued to work together since my licensure in November of 2004. Linda and I share the same values, ethics, and philosophies of birth. We work well as a team, and enjoy ministering to women together. We also enjoy the many benefits of having two licensed midwives as part of the birth team. Not only do we benefit, but I feel that there are many benefits to the expectant parents as well.
