Helping Hands Midwifery

My path to midwifery began with the birth of my second child. I had previously had a c-section with my first daughter and was told by my second ob that I HAD to have a c-section with my youngest child. I was highly disappointed in knowing that the day that my child was to be born was already chosen by my second visit with my doctor. I had previously gone on information that was given to me by my family and the traditional medical professionals. To my knowledge at the time, homebirth was not really an option for me considering that I had already had a previous c-section with my oldest. I was actually heartbroken as the weeks grew closer and my due date loomed over me like a dark cloud. You would think that most mothers would be absolutely elated to meet the newest addition into their family, and don't get me wrong I was, I was just deeply saddened at the idea that a hospital dictated, common obstetrical birth was my ONLY option. Not even a V-BAC! I began to browse the internet and see if other mothers felt the way that I did about their birth being decided for them. That is when I came across one of the most beautiful words that I had ever heard....midwife. It was foreign to me, nothing that I had ever heard of and something that intriuged me. I instantly became obsessed with everything related to midwifery, homebirth and holistic prenatal care. I knew deep down in my soul that even though I was not going to be able to get the birth that I desired, I was certainly going to play some role in educating women on their options as far as their pregnancies, deliveries, babies and well woman care was concerned. And that was in early 2005. In early 2006 I began my midwifery apprenticeship in Texas and in 2007 I began practicing as a licensed midwife. After attending my first homebirth, I knew where I belonged and that feeling has not changed since that day. I have delivered numerous babies, many of whom who have belonged to long time friends of mine. I have met a great group of mothers who share a passion for homebirth and holistic care like I do.
